 Teachers Corner: Parents this week we will start real infractions on 9/3/2024 We will also continue to work with your scholar on rules, procedures, expectations, transitions, and opening their locker. 

Math: Students will learn how to estimate decimals and use mental math to add and subtract decimals.

Science:  Scholars will discover important details about space exploration and other elements of space like galaxies, black holes and comets.

History: This week the scholars will continue their unit on the Meso-American tribes (Maya, Inca, and Aztec). In this unit the scholars will explore the differences between these cultures and will focus primarily on the following elements of each culture: Geography, religion, Arts/accomplishments, politics, economy and social structure. 

Literature: This week scholars will be quizzed on chapters 4 & 5 of VODT, we will also begin characterization.

Teachers Corner: Parents this week we will continue with mock infractions, and no real infractions will be recorded. The goal is to ensure that our students understand the expectations and are ready for when real infractions will start being issued on 9/3/2024 We will also continue to work with your scholar on rules, procedures, expectations, transitions, and opening their locker. 

Math: Students will learn how to add, subtract decimals.

Science:  This week in Science, scholars will investigate characteristics and patterns of the Moon, Sun and Planets in space.

History: This week the scholars will end their unit on the World Lakes and will begin their new unit on the Meso-American tribes (Maya, Inca, and Aztec). In this unit the scholars will explore the differences between these cultures and will focus primarily on the following elements of each culture: Geography, religion, Arts/accomplishments, politics, economy and social structure. 

Literature: This week the scholars will continue their reading in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C. S. Lewis. Specifically, please ensure your scholar has a personal copy to annotate. Scholars will be reading chapters 3-5. The scholars will write down new terms in their Literature journals and will pay key attention to the development of characters by noting how the characters act at the beginning of the book.

Grammar: Scholars will take a Grammar quiz on Ch. 1 on Monday 8/28. This week they will also be introduced to the concept of a Chreia.

Teachers Corner: Parents this week please review with your scholar the Lower School Uniform and Dress Code and Student Code of Conduct. We will continue to work with your scholar on rules, procedures, expectations, transitions, and opening their locker. 

Math: Students will learn how to round decimals and plot decimals on a number line.

Science: This week in Science, scholars will investigate the movements of Earth and the force of gravity.

History: This week the scholars will continue their study of Geography and the great lakes of the world.

Literature: “This week the scholars will begin their first classic ‘The Voyage of the Dawn treader,’ and will begin practicing notating in their classics to keep. Please make sure the scholars are equipped with a copy of the Voyage of the Dawn Treader by Monday (8/19) so that they are ready for their Literature class.”

Grammar: Students will explore the principal elements of a sentence as well as analyzing and diagramming those principal elements. Grammar Test 8/26/24

  • Saturday, August 17th PSO is hosting a Patch Party to help attach the house patches on shirts/outerwear.
  • August 23rd Half Day 
  • August 30th Coffee with the Headmaster from 8:00-9:15 AM.

 Welcome back to 5th Grade Spartans!

Teachers Corner: We are excited to have you in our class this school year. Parents this week please review with your scholar the Lower School Uniform and Dress Code and Student Code of Conduct. We will continue to work with your scholar on rules, procedures, expectations, transitions, and opening their locker. 

Math: Students will be reviewing place value with whole numbers and decimals.

Science: This week in Science, we will begin to explore the methods of scientific inquiry and how to support their claims with evidence and reasoning.

History: This week the scholars will begin the week by setting up their History notebooks. They will also begin the quarter by starting the first unit on Geography and the great lakes of the world.

Literature: This week the scholars will become re-acquainted with the school’s method of annotating text. They will do this by looking at various fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm. While reading through these fairy tales, the scholars will practice annotating by underlining important words, making notes in the margins, boxing unknown words and so forth.
