Week of 5/26/25 - 5/30/25

Teachers Corner: Parents please ensure that you and your scholar are checking and completing assignments on their agenda every night including weekends. We will continue to assign infractions, once 3 of the same kind of infractions have been accumulated they will miss their house meeting on Friday. We will also continue to work with your scholar on rules, procedures, expectations, and transitions. 

Additionally, please also ensure your scholar is in uniform everyday. Patches should be on the left sleeve of shirts and sweaters. If you need additional patches, they are available for $2 at the front lobby.

Math: Throughout our last week of quarter 4, we will engage in exciting Math reviews including Math Mazes, Find Someone Who, and Bingo

activities.

Science:  This week, scholars will wrap up their unit on Cells and the Human Body by reviewing.

History: This week the scholars will review their Geography of the United States.

Literature:  Scholars will read selections from Grimm’s Fairy Tales this week.

Writing: Scholars will reflect on their year and what they hope to experience in 6th Grade.

Week of 5/19/25 - 5/23/25

Math: This week scholars will wrap up our Financial Literacy unit with a review on Monday and a test on Tuesday. Scholars will then be introduced to algebraic expressions beginning on Wednesday.

Science:  This week, scholars will spend time talking about the immune system, sensory organs, and the nervous system. We will then review with a Jeopardy style game then complete a quiz on Friday.

History: We will be continuing our final unit on Native Americans: Cultures and Conflicts this week. Scholars will have a quiz on 5/22.

Literature:  Scholars will start our study of mystery novels with Sherlock Holmes.

Writing: Scholars will create a six paragraph essay about King Richard III.

To help close out the school year in a spirit of reflection and gratitude, we are working on creating a 5th grade slideshow to be shown during the 5th grade promotion. Please upload two photos of your child to the class section's Google form link emailed by the teacher.

1. One photo should be of your child currently in 5th grade

2. The second photo is your choice (Kindergarten - 4th grade)

The photos will only be shown at the beginning of the 5th grade promotion and will not be posted on any social media. Please do not email photos to our personal inbox; all photos must be uploaded using the link below to ensure they are added into the slideshow. The deadline to upload pictures is Friday May 16th. If you upload more than two photos, we will determine which pictures will be uploaded into the slideshow.

Math: This week scholars will be learning how to develop financial literacy systems. They will learn how to keep financial records, balance a budget, and identify income and expenses.

Science:  Scholars will continue their unit on Cells and the Human Body by learning about different body systems: this week being the excretory, integumentary and circulatory systems.

History: We will be starting our final unit this week. The unit will be Native Americans: Cultures and Conflicts.

Literature:  Scholars will continue our reading of Across Five Aprils. They will have a seminar on the book on Thursday.

Writing: Scholars will practice oral narration and review figurative language.

Science:  Scholars will continue their unit on Cells and the Human Body by learning about different body systems, including the skeletal, muscular and digestive systems.

History: Scholars will explore how the frontier "closed" and how the United States acquired Alaska. Scholars will have a quiz on Thursday 5/7.

Literature:  Scholars will continue our reading of Across Five Aprils.

Writing: This week Scholars will practice letter writing.

Math: This week scholars will take the Math STAAR on Tuesday April 22nd. On Wednesday they will begin exploring the area of triangles.

Science:  Scholars will continue their unit on Protecting Earth’s Resources by cooperatively building a class terrarium and learning about water and air pollution, land contamination, and composting.

History: We are starting New Unit Westward Expansion After the Civil War.

Literature:  Scholars will continue our read of Across Five Aprils and work on writing a letter from the POV of one of the characters. Poem recitations will be 5/23.

Writing: This week scholars will review the elements of literary criticism and write a literary criticism Essay for Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.

Math: This week scholars will review the four operations of decimals, number patterns and rules with coordinate planes, properties and classifications of triangles and quadrilaterals, and volume in preparation for the STAAR next week (Tuesday 4/22).

Science:  This week, scholars will finish their review prior to their STAAR test then will begin their unit on Protecting Earth’s Resources.

History: We will be finishing the Civil War unit this week. Scholars will be studying the study guide this week and will be reviewing the major events of the war leaving up to the test: Civil War Unit Test on 4/17.

Literature: Scholars will continue reading Across Five Aprils and analyzing character changes throughout the text.

Writing: This week scholars will take their final grammar quiz on Monday. Grammar books should not come back to school after 4/14.

Math: This week scholars will have an assessment on data analysis. They will then begin reviewing math from this year.

Science:  This week, scholars will continue their review on previously learned units including force and motion, changes to Earth’s surface, and Space.

History: This week we will finish reading out unit on the Civil War. We will then begin to study for the unit test next week.

Literature: Scholars will continue to read and get to know the Creighton family in Across Five Aprils.

Grammar: This week Scholars will Analyze and diagram complex sentences containing relative clauses.
